Yannis has been practicing and teaching different styles of Yoga for more than 30 years.
He started his Yoga studies in Greece in the Sivananda Yoga tradition and Zen meditation. He continued in the Sivananda tradition in the USA studying with Swami Swaroopananda and Srinivasan. His Iyengar studies were done under Constance Braden and George Purvis and his main influences in the Ashtanga world were Bella Gerber, David Swenson and Olaf Kalfas. He has lived in Houston and has taught Ashtanga Yoga in the Mysore tradition continuously since 1998 while his students have been teaching him how to be more patient and compassionate.
The Mysore style class is the core class in our studio. In contrast to the usual Yoga class it consists of one-on-one instruction and coaching in a group setting. The teacher assists each student by giving physical adjustments and verbal instruction as needed. The yoga asanas are taught according to the student’s individual capacity, level of health and overall ability.
As the student learns, repeats and eventually masters the given sequences of asanas an independent and mature personal practice is gradually created.
